Concussion Services
Concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury and therefore should be taken seriously and assessed and treated by health care professionals with experience in concussion management.
Concussion may be caused by a direct blow to the head, face, neck or elsewhere in the body with an impulsive force transmitted to the head. This could include a fall, head trauma (eg. punch or collision), motor vehicle accident etc. Concussion can affect anyone, at any age (not just athletes). It can occur with or without a loss of consciousness. Structural brain scans (eg. CT or MRI) are typically normal because the symptoms result from damage at a cellular level and this affects the brains ability to function.
